Beyond the beams and bolts, Boom Logistics has cemented its role as a trusted solutions partner on some of Western Australia’s most high-profile infrastructure projects.
The company’s ongoing investment in its people, and its commitment to long-term client relationships form the cornerstone of its industry reputation. From building physical bridges to forging strong connections with clients, Boom helps to connect regions as well as communities.
Reliability, timeliness and strong relationships have been some of the key attributes that make Boom the lifting solutions provider of choice for complex infrastructure projects across the State. From the Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal Project to the Perth Tonkin Highway extension, Roelands Bridge Upgrade, and Leach Highway Bridge Extension, Boom delivers consistently where results matter most.
High stakes, high precision
The Victoria Park-Canning level Crossing Removal Project, part of the Armadale Line Upgrade Alliance (ALUA), was marked as the largest public transport infrastructure project in Western Australia’s history, and Boom played a critical role in its successful completion. Boom’s involvement in gantry relocation required a multi-dimensional approach. The project posed several challenges, from lifting rubber tyred gantries to strategically planned locations, working around road closures, overhead powerlines, and urban structural constraints all on a tight schedule.
Through meticulous site planning, innovative lift study and precision execution, Boom safely installed more than 2,000 precast elements including L-beams and piers one month ahead of schedule with zero incidents. The project’s success positioned it as a model project for future heavy lift operations, with Boom’s lifting strategy considered as a finalist for the Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA) Lift of the Year 2024.
A similar level of excellence was required for the Roelands Bridge Upgrade, where the team executed significant lifts to replace two rail bridge structures on the South West mainline railway, together with the removal and installation of 25-44 tonne steel spans.
More than just bridges
Meanwhile, Boom’s early involvement in the ALUA project was critical to navigating the site’s complex constraints which included live traffic, rail lines, high voltage lines, gas pipes and water infrastructure. By embedding within ALUA’s design team months ahead of delivery, Boom was able to contribute strategically and mitigate risks before project execution.
This early involvement and proactive planning, coupled with a relationship built on consistency and delivery, was what made the difference, WA Regional Manager Dave Barfield said.
“Our clients see us as more than a contractor: they trust us as a partner,” Mr Barfield said.
“ALUA was a complex site with many moving parts and constraints. Being brought in early meant we could work closely with the client to solve potential problems before we reached the site. We had to examine ground bearing pressures, and plan the lifts around the existing electric lines, gas pipes, and water lines.”
Client success
Boom’s ability to bridge gaps, be it structural or relational, has been frequently acknowledged by clients, who have lauded the team for its professionalism, consistency, and reliability.
“Having Boom come on board in the early phases of project planning gave us real confidence. The team had a level of foresight and ability to spot potential risks and issues far ahead of project execution,’ said Jordan Pollock a senior Project Engineer at Acciona. “Their ability to problem-solve early and deliver ahead of time made them a real asset and valuable partner for ALUA Project.”
This relational trust that Boom works hard to forge between its team and clients, is earned over years of consistency, and its fruits show up in the form of repeat business from satisfied clients.
“The most telling feedback we get is repeat business,” Director of Operations Lester Fernandez said. “Clients don’t just commend our work, they specifically request for our teams by name to come back, and this is to us the biggest recognition of our team’s efforts and talents.”
This continued vote of confidence from various industry leaders in the infrastructure space has contributed to Boom’s reputation as a market leader in heavy lift infrastructure projects across Western Australia. Their ability to mitigate risk, deliver on time and on budget, and help bring major public infrastructure construction to completion safely has made them the trusted choice for partners, State government builders and Tier One contractors alike.
Looking ahead, Boom is focused on deepening its partnerships and delivering outstanding outcomes on projects that shape WA’s infrastructure.
“We don’t measure success only by how many tonnes we lift or how many projects we complete,” CEO and Managing Director Ben Pieyre said. “We focus on the strength of our partnerships, the safety of our people, and we will continue to invest in these areas so that we can keep delivering where it counts the most.”
